Rainbow "Steelhead" Trout Charter Fishing on Lake Michigan

Rainbow trout are the acrobatic fish on Lake Michigan. Once they strike they are on the surface jumping as high as four feet out of the water. A fun fish to catch and great on the grill. We catch them throughout the season in many depths of water but the best place to target them is offshore during the summer.

When we say offshore we are starting as much as 8 miles out in 200 plus feet of water. We troll our fastest speeds to catch these fish, going as fast as 3.5 miles an hour, with many of our baits in the top 60 feet of water.

When you get into a school of these fish hook-ups are plenty but because of the way they jump, it is common to lose them. Don’t get frustrated we will get another one on. We commonly use spoons to catch Rainbow trout.
